Tickets to B1A4′s Japanese showcase sell out in one minute

Rookie group B1A4 amazed the public with their level of popularity after it was revealed that tickets to their first Japanese showcase were sold out in just 1 minute!

The boys will be putting on their first show in front of Japanese fans and local media at the ‘B1A4 – Japan Showcase Live 2011′ on December 9th in Tokyo.

As soon as tickets went on sale, a flood of eager fans overwhelmed the site and caused the server to crash. During the second round of sales after the crash, all the seats were sold out almost instantly. Those fans who weren’t able to get their hands on a ticket have been pleading for an extra date, and some have even paid up to 100,000 yen (~$1,300 USD) for one ticket on auction sites.

B1A4 has signed with Pony Canyon, the same Japanese agency as Hallyu star Jang Geun Suk. It’s an unprecedented feat for a rookie group, and with this new development, it proves that they’ve got a lot to offer.

In related news, B1A4 will follow up their “Beautiful Target” promotions with “My Love”, a second track off their mini-album.

allkpop TV Guide and Ratings (11/07-11/12)

Welcome to another week of ‘allkpop TV guide and Ratings‘, an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week’s episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.

We’ve got the three regular shows being recapped for this week — ‘Poseidon‘ (with Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon), ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ (starring Shin Se Kyung, Jang Hyuk, and Super Junior‘s Kim Ki Bum), and ‘Man of Honor‘ (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung).

Let’s find out how these programs did for the week of November 7th to the 12th.

KBS‘s ‘Poseidon‘ ended its broadcast with a slightly higher rating of 8.9%, a result that’s sure to be disappointing for the series as it was unable to break the double digits, despite showing a steady increase as the show advanced both in tension and character development.
To replace ‘Poseidon’, KBS will air new series ‘Brain‘ next week with its first and second episode. The show underwent significant cast changes and even tried getting Song Seung Hun for the lead role, but finally settled its lineup with Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won. Even though it is unlikely for ‘Brain’ to overtake ‘A Thousand Day’s Promise’, it might be able to race past ‘Gyebaek’ with its medical drama appeal.

MBC’s ‘I’m a Flower, Too‘ aired its pilot episode with a low rating of 6.8%, but was able to steadily increase to 7.6% as the love line between Yoon Si Yoon and Lee Ji Ah unfolded. The drama also impacted rival series, ‘Man of Honor‘, who declined to 12.7% because of viewers decamping to MBC to check out ‘I’m a Flower, Too’.

As for SBS’s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘, it experienced only a slight dip from last week, managing to hold onto its high ratings with a superior figure of 19.9%.
Official Synopsis: Kim Sun Woo (Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon) spent his school days as a troublemaker, but decides to make a change in his life and joins the marine special forces team, aptly named ‘Poseidon’. Sun Woo shines as a promising commando, but his career takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled in an unsavory incident. He becomes demoted, and gets transferred to a marine police office in Gunsan city. Sun Woo’s passion for his job quickly cools down, and he slowly loses his vision as a marine police officer.

One day, Jung Ryul (Lee Sung Jae) appears out of the blue, and offers Kim Sun Woo the opportunity to join his new crime investigation team in Incheon city. Will Kim Sun Woo be able to reclaim his destiny and fulfill his potential?

-

Recap of Ep. 16 (**Finale**): Despite the speculations over Sun Woo’s death (which came about thanks to the director’s predilections for killing off his male leads), the drama ended with the standard happy ending. The CGI9 was able to capture Choi Hee Goon with the clues left behind by President Lee, which helped them figure out the hidden meaning behind Choi Hee Goon’s name.

As it turned out, Choi Hee Goon was discovered to be none other than President Lee, a shocking development for the CGI9 team.

With the bad guys put away and the mystery solved, CGI9 took a moment as they honored those who served and sacrificed for the country. Soo Yoon and Sun Woo both smiled happily as they look towards their future, holding hands at the helm of the boat.

Considering the stats, ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ will most likely continue with its high ratings, but it’d be interesting to see how the rivalry between ‘I’m a Flower, Too’ and ‘Man of Honor’ pans out over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, SBS‘s ‘A Thousand Days’ Promise’ (starring Soo Ae and Kim Rae Won) is still holding the crown with its superior rating of 19.2%, and MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ rose slightly with 11.8%.

SNSD to host their own show

It has just been announced that SNSD will become the hosts of their own talk show.

jTBC channel held a press conference on November 15th and explained, “We are producing [a show called] ‘SNSD’ featuring SNSD.”

Although this has been done before in Japan with SMAP on ‘SMAPxSMAP’, this will be the first time that a talk show starring members of a group will be produced in Korea.

‘SNSD’ will feature the nine members as talk show hosts, and will be produced by PD Yoon Hyun Joon, who has produced other talk show programs such as ‘Win Win’.

The official air date has not yet been announced, but it was revealed that ‘SNSD’ will be aired every Sunday during 7:30 to 9:10 PM (70 min). The time slot will put them in competition over viewer ratings with KBS‘ weekend dramas, and MBC and SBS’ news.

Update: Shortly after this article had been written, new information regarding the show has been released.

jTBC has announced that instead of a talk show like it had been reported, a variety show will be produced featuring all the members.

The show’s air time has also changed from Sunday to Saturday starting at 7:30 PM, which will put the show in competition with MBC’s ‘Infinity Challenge’, KBS’s ‘Immortal Song 2′, and SBS’ ‘Star King’.

They have also announced the tentative air date of December 4th.

Netizens are curious to see how the show will fare amongst the tough competition.

Are Super Junior & the Brown Eyed Girls too old to be called ‘idols’?

On November 5th, Y-STAR‘s ’Curious Things‘ conducted a street survey in which they asked ordinary people about the criteria of being an idol.

According to the survey results, the average age of idols came out to be 25 – indicating that people did not really see stars over the age of 25, as idols. Taking this into account, Y-STAR calculated the average age of various groups.

Groups such as SNSD, T-ara, and 2PM were found to have an average age of less than 25, while groups like Super Junior and Brown Eyed Girls had a higher average age.

With these results, it was concluded that Brown Eyed Girls and Super Junior should be not recognized as just ‘idols’, but rather as ‘adult idols’.

Big Bang #1 on the MTV 2011 EMAs buzz tracker + more photos & videos

During this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV kept track of which artists were creating ‘buzz’ on Twitter and with the paparazzi. Not only did Big Bang just win Best Worldwide Act award, but the group proved to be the most tweeted artists throughout the evening, coming in at #1 on the 2011 MTV EMAs Twitter Tracker. They also managed to work their way to #2 in Paparazzi Buzz, a category tracking the number of retweets made for celebrities’ official red carpet photos on Twitter.
MTV asked, “Which EMA stars are you tweeting about? Get the buzz on who’s trending right this second!”, and tonight, that answer was Big Bang. Over the course of the three hours of festivities, Big Bang, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez each battled for overall top spot.

Roughly midway through the event, Big Bang fans were able place the beloved quintet at #1 on the tracker. However, shortly before their victory was announced, Big Bang made it to the #1 position overall where they have stayed since then. It looks the years of practice to get birthday and anniversary tags to trend on Twitter have paid off big for VIPs.

Prior to their win, Big Bang was interviewd by Western media on the red carpet. Taeyang stated, “I grew up with MTV, they were always showing us alot of musiv videos and music information.” When asked who he was most interested in seeing, G-Dragon named Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. Check out the full interview beloa.

Finally, here are a some pictures from the red carpet and during their win. Fans were excited to see all the memebrs smiling brightly, there is even one with Big Bang and 2011 Global Icon Award winner, Queen!

Given the ups and downs for Big Bang over this past year, with this kind of international recognition, what do you think the future holds for this them?
